It will come as no surprise to many of you that one of the things I was reaaaaaally looking forward to doing in Bali was gobbling up some delicious suckling pig (“babi guling”) at Ibu Oka, in Ubud, Bali. I had been lusting after that pig ever since seeing it on an episode of No Reservations.
Ibu Oka is in the heart of Ubud, right next to the royal palace. It is far from fancy – diners crowd in to enjoy lunch, often sitting on the floor at communal tables – until they run out of food, which apparently happens often.
However, my plan to eat an absurd amount of pork hit a snafu in the form of the Hindu holiday Galungan – many restaurants, including Ibu Oka, would be closed during my planned stay in Ubud. So, I extended my stay, obviously!
I finally enjoyed a delicious lunch at Ibu Oka before heading off to the airport – the “special” plate included slices of juicy roasted pork (the pork was well seasoned, but not spicy), a couple pieces of crispy, fatty, pig skin, and a few crispy pieces of intestine (don’t wrinkle your nose at me – it is delicious!).
And then I washed in down with a nice, cold Bintang. Yum.

I am definitely glad I got to check Ibu Oka out – that lunch was one of the more memorable meals I had in Bali.
